John Bokker’s eight-year stint as Spearfish’s head boy’s wrestling coach ended this week after he formally submitted his resignation.
Bokker’s father passed away in November 2023, and his mother moved in with him.
“I just want to be more flexible in case I have to be there for my mom, and I can’t do that as a head coach,” Bokker added.
Bokker teaches fifth grade at Creekside Elementary School, and he will remain in that capacity. He said he applied for the middle school wrestling coaching job, with possibilities of being a high school assistant.
Bokker agreed that being an assistant coach would provide more flexibility than being a varsity head coach.
