New Head Boy’s Wrestling Coach For Spearfish

Spearfish High School Activities Director Dalton Wademan, is happy to announce the hiring of John Thayer as the new Spearfish Spartans Head Boy’s Wrestling Coach. Coach Thayer graduated from the University of Wyoming where he walked onto the wrestling program. After college, he went to Arizona where he was a head wrestling coach. Following his time in Arizona, he moved to Colorado where he continued to teach and coach. While in Colorado, he was able to help start a wrestling program at Colorado State.

After being in Colorado, he went to Lead-Deadwood and served as a head wrestling coach for the Golddiggers…starting up the program again after a co opp with Spearfish for a while. After some time with the Diggers he went back to his hometown of Lusk, Wyoming. Coach Thayer has since been in the Spearfish School District for the past year as a counselor at Mountain View and Creekside Elementary. He was a middle school wrestling coach and volunteered with the high school program. In the next school year, he’ll take over as the welding teacher at Spearfish High School and become the new boys’ wrestling coach.

Coach John Thayer brings over 22 years of coaching experience at all levels from college to the youth level. He’ll replace John Bokker, who resigned from the head boys wrestling coach position earlier this month. Bokker served as the Spartans head coach for the past eight years.
