BHSU’s Englehorn Adds Sam Woodley To Coaching Staff

Black Hills State University head softball coach Ashlyn Englehorn has named Sam Woodley as the first-ever full-time assistant coach in program history. Woodley will work with the Yellow Jacket catchers and assist with the overall BHSU defensive philosophy.

“We are so excited to get Sam out to the Hills and welcome her to the softball program and BH community,” noted Englehorn. “She brings experience at a high level in both her coaching and playing career and she will be an asset for the future of Jacket softball. I believe Sam is exactly what the program needs to reach our goals.”

Woodley comes to Black Hills State after one season as an assistant coach at the University of Montana in 2024. While at Montana, she helped coach the Grizzlies to the 2024 the Big Sky conference tournament. She coached a pair of All-Conference players in her time, including a First Team All-Big Sky performer Riley Peschek and Second Team performer Presley Jantzi.

“I’m very excited to be joining the Black Hills Softball program! I have known Ashlyn for several years since our playing time at Corban University and knew that one day we would eventually end up coaching together because of our friendship and mutual love for this game,” noted Woodley. “Ashlyn’s teams have all played with a high level of controlled aggression that want to put opposing defenses on its heels, and I am excited to come in and help accentuate that style with my passion for the tactical side of the game. I am extremely excited to get to meet and work with all of our student-athletes as we make a push toward competing in the RMAC conference tournament next spring!”
