O’Farrell Awarded NCAA Division II Anniversary Scholarship

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) has announced their 46-person NCAA Division II 50th anniversary scholarship recipients with the NCAA giving out $50,000 in total scholarships. Black Hills State University football student-athlete Sebastian O’Farrell was one of 46 NCAA Division II student-athletes to receive a scholarship.

O’Farrell enters his junior season at BHSU in the 2024 season, appearing in 20 games with 33 tackles at his linebacker position. He studies psychology at Black Hills State with minors in biology and chemistry. He plans to go to medical school after his playing days at BHSU.

“Sebastian certainly takes pride in how he approaches academics. He was a tremendous student in high school and has proven to be one of our best student athletes here at BH,” noted head coach Josh Breske. “He’s a great example to his teammates and will be an even bigger contributor on the field this next season.”

The Anchorage, Alaska native was one of two Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) student-athletes to earn a scholarship from the NCAA for the 50th anniversary. He joins Alessandra Meoni of South Dakota Mines volleyball.

Recipients have exemplified the division’s Life in the Balance philosophy through high-level athletics competition, academic achievement, campus involvement and community engagement.
